Some Useful Manuals and Info Sheets
I've collected a few publications which help with fault finding some parts of the TR, there are copies here as GIF files and PDF files. The GIF should download 1 page at a time as you read it (i.e. next page loads as you read current). PDF files are quite big and only suited to patient modem users Carburettors
First, an SU (Skinners Union) manual describing their products, it contains info on HS series carbs plus Fuel Pumps and Auxilliary starting devices (luckily not ftted to TRs).
Second, a later Leyland Technical document that discusses both SU and ZS (Zenith Stromberg) function & setup. Personally i believe these carbs function identically. I have read many stories about the benefits of replacing ZSs with SUs but personally believe any positive results are purely because of poor maintenance/setup on the ZS devices.
Smiths Speedometers
This is a surprisingly useful document, explaining what those four numbers mean on the face of your speedo and what you need to do to get the speedo to read accurately. The speedo supplied with TRs was not always identical, depending on tyre choice, especially as Radials and Cross-Plies have quite different dynamic rolling radii.
Laycock Overdrive
This you really need! It expalins how the damn thing works and how to fix faults. Its great to see a supplier's manual that recommends whacking the casing with a hammer when the clutch has frozen. It also tells you what other cars were fitted with A type and D type drives, clear message: They are All Different so if you fit the wrong on then the balance of engagement force and smoothness (which must have been calculated from the car's power & weight). This is especially true for the TR4A which needs smooth engagement!
